Say what you will about the income tax, at least it’s vaguely progressive and completely honest about how much money it’s taking from you.
State lottos, which usually get sold as ways to raise funds without raising property taxes, are very regressive taxes with pretty colors and promises of big returns. It’s no surprise that their biggest customers are non-high school grads.
It’s all rather distasteful, with middle to upper class college grads saying that they don’t want to pay a little more taxes on their house so someone else who makes a whole lot less should give up a larger portion of their income to make sure that schools can teach and roads can be built. Taxes are for the peasants and all that.
