Rick Warren makes a statement about Christianity that’s been made before:
Warren responded, “Well, if the Bible is the word of God, then I don’t have the right to change it. … And to me, the Bible is very clear that sex is for a man and a woman in marriage only.” He added, “History shows that when the church accommodates culture, it weakens it. This is why there is a very weak church in Europe today. It’s almost nonexistent in many areas.”
Go Rick Warren. If there’s one thing you can say about the Catholic Church, it’s that it “accomodates culture” too much. That’s why they allow gays to marry, priests to marry, and abortion-on-demand.
Frankly, this is something the Catholics will always have on Protestants: you actually have to know stuff to be in the Catholic clergy. Any Protestant can put out a shingle and say they’re a pastor, no matter how ignorant they are. That’s fun for a while, but I’m old-skool in preferring that experts are not of the self-proclaimed variety.
Either way, he says Jesus wouldn’t help the poor because it robs them of their dignity, a very in-vogue and not at all Biblical idea. He’s willing to bend to some cultural influences but not others. Does it have anything to do with his political leanings?
