Turtle smuggling

Not the exact same thing, but my mother recently took students to Mexico to help sea turtles get back into the ocean after hatching. I thought the  main threat was seagulls, but they’re not: the major problem is smuggling since the eggs and babies are apparently delicious. They’re expensive on the black market.

They’re also a beautiful animal that swims around the world every couple of decades and go back to the same beach they were born on to lay eggs. There aren’t many animals that do that.
