This is one issue where I’d cut Obama some slack. The choice for a pol isn’t between supporting super PACs or not, it’s between winning or losing. He could turn his back on all that money and have a very principled defeat, or he can try to get some of that money too.
This points to some problems with using money to ration speech, but it also shows that the only people who’ll have the power to change the system will be those who can get the most money. That’s what makes it so ingenious.
