Don’t blame the people

My general instinct on policy questions is that the masses are usually not at fault when it comes to ludicrous stuff like this. Pretty much anywhere where someone says “Why don’t the people of X country support a sane policy?” the answer is usually: they do, but their leaders don’t want it.

That doesn’t stop the rich punditocracy from blaming the masses, because otherwise they’d have to blame the people at their cocktail parties. And that’d be worse than genocide.
