At least a vote on same-sex marriage would allow gay people a vote, making it slightly better than a vote in 1950’s Alabama on, say, voting rights.
Then again, the way the civil rights movement gets taught in American schools (World War II finished, and… summer vacation!), it’s easy for some white people to think it was a few pretty speeches and marches followed by law changes and everything’s all better.
And calling the gay state assemblyman that called you out “numb nuts”? Pure class. Perhaps our bourgeois press corps that claims to value civility above all else can square that kind of behavior away with their clamoring for him to run for president, but I can only read that as hypocrisy.
