Why don’t people donate more money to gay orgs?

Jimmy Nguyen raises the question LGBT nonprofits have been asking ever since I got into this blogging business: why don’t more queers donate cash? That usually leads them to whine about how gays are greedy, vapid, bitchy, etc.

The question should really be: why do so many LGBT people feel they have no investment in the LGBT rights movement? The answers would be more useful since they’d be harder: nonprofits would have to question their tactics and their goals to decide if they’re relevant to more than 3% of the queer population.

Auto-criticism is hard. Especially if you’re in charge of a group that’s turning people off because it takes $35 donations from idealistic unemployed people and gives the money to someone making $300K so he can buy a third of a D&G tie.
